Our beloved Attorney General, may his name and memory be forgotten, just resigned; he won't serve a second term. No word yet on his future plans or his successor (a matter which concerns me deeply - Gonzalez, the current White House counsel and architect of various plans to thwart the Constitution, has been described as a likely candidate, and the others likely to be even worse) but I certainly won't be sad to see him vanish.
Alas, a bit longer until he formally leaves office, so I can't legally state what I think of him quite yet. But I'm thinking it.
Actually, I think it should be exactly the opposite - may his name and memory be long remembered as an example of what should not be.
And to think I was happy when he was appointed because he was supposed to be a champion of states rights, small government, and Founding-Father-type freedoms. Boy was I wrong.
Hmm... you may have a good point. But I suspect we'll have more than our share of villains even without his example, and the most his memory will be used for is as a beacon to his ilk.

Well, he had that too. But as governor of then senator for Missouri he was known as a conservative of both the social form and the economic and anti-federal type. Then he lost the 2000 senate election, as the incumbant in the south and a Republican, to a dead guy. I am not joking. It was quite amusing.
Dear gods, I hope not. But let's hope that the rumors that he's leaving due to health reasons are true - that should keep him out of politics for a while.
I would rather they got a Kodiak bear through the senate.
(Frankly, given the way our Congress has been behaving lately, loosing a bear in there may not be entirely amiss - but that's another matter altogether.)
i think this is tragically offset by the projection that colin powell will resign. so goes one of the last relatively sensible voices in the west wing. rumsfeld is also expected to go, but i think they'll just replace him with ms. rice, which would make history, sure, but would also involve handing the bush war machine to it's biggest proponent. sigh.
Eh... Powell was doomed to go from the start; he was always very much an outsider, and being a sensible voice had very little influence. Rice probably won't get SECDEF, though; she doesn't have the experience for it. She's made noises about wanting to go back to Stanford. But I've heard rumors about Wolfowitz for that post...
Presumably Powell is going due to not being a fundamentalist christian nutbag... As for sensible, well, he is the fellow that created the situation that led to the My Lai massacre back in Vietnam. I don't get the impression that he's behaved much better since. He just shows up as sensible next to a bunch of loonies.
